Scope and Contents Internet: Silkscreener and publisher Kerstin Lichtblau and the interdisciplinary artist Brandstifter formed aartzine to combine their personally skills in bookart making and comunicareing with a huge network of astonoshing contemporary artists and fanzine makers around the world. For each issue they invite 12 artist friends to perform four exclusive pages in A5 format for aart zine, with drawing, collage, photography, copyart and stamp/print techniques, etc. Brandstifter + Lichtblau reproduce these artworks as double sided digital black and white prints on one A4 landscape page - each artist's work on a different coloured paper - in a limited edition to 120 and design a silkscreened cover by themselves.Instead of just following the normal process of book making and editioning a fanzine by binding the printed pages they present the ready made ingredients for their artists' books at bookfairs/exhibition as an open source. This package consists of mimeographed sheets from AH No.1-8, which were displayed at an exhibition of "Concrete Poesie" held at the Stedeljk Museum, Amsterdam on June 6, 1970. Scope and Contents Dana Atchley's "Notebook 1," an Assembling, was published in March 1970 about the same time as Assembling No.1. Ed Ruscha contributed a piece entitled, "Chocolate" that consists of the word "Chocolate" printed on one page and a hand applied chocolate smear on the following sheet. This is the first periodical to utilize the term, "Assembling." Contemporary Assembling magazines arouse from the topology of correspondence art. As common reference points for its geographically dispersed participants, they functioned as alternative spaces for exhibiting work, places where invitations for projects could be broadcast and coupled with the growing practice of listing contributor's addresses, initiators of community building. Equally important, they provided correspondence art with an image of itself, a momentary snapshot that illuminated the scope and breadth of its activities. Self-published in small print runs, utilizing available print technologies, these periodicals were distributed...

Scope and Contents

The round cardboard case measuring 6.7" in diameter is made from handmade pulp such that bits of fragmented texts appear on its surface. Its lid is perforated in the center. The names of the contributors are printed on two concertinas made from red paper. One of the works has a background of the same word repetively printed in tight grid with two large empty letters, e.g., ER, superimposed = Ersatz (substitute). -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
